What could brighten up a Thursday morning more than a warm cup of coffee, a good chat with friends… and a bundle of fluffy poodle puppies? 🐶✨

This week, members of the Stevenage Seniors Social Club were treated to a very special visit at Bedwell Community Centre. The pups quickly became the centre of attention, happily hopping from lap to lap, enjoying endless cuddles, and bringing big smiles to everyone in the room. Between chess matches, cups of coffee, and lively conversations, the whole group was buzzing with joy.

Over the past few months, our social club has really grown — with more and more people coming along to join in the fun. What started as a small gathering has turned into a vibrant community where friendships flourish, laughter flows, and no one ever feels alone.

Events like this aren’t just about having fun (though there’s plenty of that, too). They give older people the chance to connect, keep their minds active, and be part of something uplifting. Research shows that staying social and engaged later in life is good for wellbeing — helping to reduce feelings of loneliness, boost mood, and even keep the brain sharper. We see the truth of that every month in the smiles and energy around the room.

The puppy visit is just one of many exciting things happening. In recent months, we’ve enjoyed cheese and wine tastings, marked VE Day with a special celebration, and shared plenty of laughs over games and themed activities. And with events like Remembrance Day, Halloween, and Christmas on the horizon, there’s even more to look forward to.

The Stevenage Seniors Social Club meets on the last Thursday of every month at Bedwell Community Centre — and everyone is welcome. Whether you’d like to come along yourself, or you know a friend, neighbour, or family member who could benefit from getting out, making new friends, and enjoying a morning of activities, we’d love to see you there.
