A wake night, sometimes called waking night care, means a trained carer stays awake in the home throughout the night, from the moment they arrive to the moment they hand over in the morning. They are not resting on standby. They are alert, present, and ready to help the moment they are needed.
That might mean regular repositioning to protect skin, help with the toilet or continence care, medication at set times, reassurance during confusion or distress, or simply keeping a close eye on someone whose health can change quickly overnight. For some families, it is the difference between broken sleep and real rest.

If the person you care for tends to settle and sleep through, with only the occasional need for help, a sleepover may be the better fit. We are always honest about which one actually suits your situation. See our Sleep Overs page for the comparison.
We start with a proper handover, not a rushed one. Before a wake night carer ever sets foot in your home, we make sure they understand the person's routine, their preferences, their medication, and what "normal" looks like for them, so they can spot when something isn't right.
We match carers to the person, not just the shift. Where continuity matters, we do everything we can to send familiar faces, so the person being cared for isn't waking to a stranger every night. Where clinical tasks are involved, our carers are trained and supervised to carry them out safely, and we stay in close contact with families so mornings start with a clear picture of how the night went, not a guessing game.
