Newport first appears in the Domesday Book of 1086, and it's still built around its parish church, St Mary the Virgin, and historic buildings like the Crown House and Monks Barn. Newport railway station gives a direct line to London Liverpool Street and Cambridge, and the village sits at the centre point of the Harcamlow Way, the long-distance path that links Cambridge and Harlow.
