Hatfield Broad Oak grew up as a market town in Saxon times, and its history is still visible in St Mary the Virgin Church, the remains of Hatfield Regis Priory, and the fifteenth-century Cock Inn. Hatfield Forest sits right beside the village, an ancient royal hunting forest now looked after by the National Trust, home to the Doodle Oak, thought to be around 850 years old. It's a quiet, close-knit place, around 7 miles from our Harlow base. We cover Hatfield Broad Oak and the surrounding area, including Hatfield Heath, Takeley and Great Dunmow.
